  • From the first 400W electric motor to becoming a global company with a broad product portfolio
  • The low-voltage Torqeedo outboards line-up is now also available in selected Yamaha dealers in almost all European countries.

Wessling, Germany (17 April 2025) – Torqeedo, the world market leader for electric propulsion systems on the water, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year - and at the same time takes an important step into the future: The low-voltage Torqeedo outboards line-up is now also available in selected Yamaha dealers in almost all European countries.

"Passion and technological innovation in watersports has been our main driving force since 2005. We have been developing and producing quiet, powerful and lowemission propulsion systems for 20 years. Today, we have brought more than 250,000 electric motors and systems to the market - enabling our customers to enjoy a unique experience on the water," says Heiko Vietmeier, CEO of Torqeedo.

From the first 400-watt electric motor to a global network

Since the unveiling of the first 400 watt electric motor at boot Düsseldorf 2006, Torqeedo has grown from a start-up to a global company with a comprehensive product portfolio.

Only a few months after its market launch, the first travel model was included in the list of the "100 best sailing products of all time" by the British magazine Yachting Monthly. This was followed in 2008 by the "Startup of the Year" award in Germany. Torqeedo has continued to expand its product portfolio and increasingly equips traditional ships such as the Kaiser Friedrich, Berlin's oldest passenger ship, and the Henry Schmitz, an elegant saloon ship on Amsterdam's historic canals, with low-emission propulsion systems. Today, the range extends from compact travel and ultralight outboards to fully integrated Deep Blue hybrid systems with outputs of up to 200 kW.

Expanded distribution for more variety on the water

From April 2025, the Torqeedo low-volt outboard motors will also be available from Yamaha dealers in Scandinavia, France, Poland and even more European countries. The extensive range includes the Torqeedo Travel Ultralight models (1- 3 hp equivalent), the Travel product family (2-5 hp equivalent), which are ideal for smaller boats of up to two tons, and the more powerful Cruise models (6-25 hp equivalent) for larger vessels of up to twelve tons.

"With the merger of the Torqeedo and Yamaha sales networks in Europe, we are now reaching another milestone in the integration process and at the same time further strengthening our distribution structures," concludes Heiko Vietmeier.

Since April 2024, Torqeedo has been part of the global multinational Yamaha. As part of its Marine CASE Strategy 2024, Yamaha aims to achieve carbon neutrality in the marine industry by promoting a multi-directional development approach to serve customers’ needs - electrification is one of them.
